This Is the Actor Who Inspired Khaleesi from 'Game of Thrones'
Even the Mother of Dragons needs a strong, female role model.
Emilia Clarke, Mother of Dragons and sexiest person alive, has made a name for herself as the highly skilled and confident Daenerys Targaryen on HBO's Game of Thrones. While slipping into the role of the Breaker of Chains/ Queen of Meereen/ Queen of the Andals/ Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea may look natural for the British actress, it's actually not.
“The role of Khaleesi is tall and willowy and blonde, I’m short and round and brown,” she told The Wrap at the Power Women's breakfast on Wednesday. “So they weren’t, like, she can do that role, easy!”
So, tell us Emilia, where did all your strength and inner confidence come from? According to the actress, she sought inspiration from "as many strong women" as possible including from the great Cate Blanchett, specifically from her Oscar-nominated role in Elizabeth.
“Cate Blanchett in Elizabeth, that was something I watched a lot while preparing for Season 1,” she said. The 1998 film is "rooted in reality," she continued, and made it easy to replicate a "real, strong female leader."
Ah, yes, now this makes complete sense.
