Angelina Jolie stunned the world when she revealed in a New York Times op-ed piece that she had a double mastectomy in February and reconstructive surgery in April. She had made the very difficult decision based on her family history (her mother died from breast cancer at the age of 56). Since then, the 37-year-old actress has received an outpour of support from those who considered Jolie's decision to go public with her personal health very "brave."
However, according to People, the mother of six is planning on undergoing another, more complex surgery to remove her ovaries in the near future as her "faulty" BRCA1 gene makes her high risk of developing ovarian cancer, which her doctor estimates at 50 percent.
Jolie will most likely hold off on having the operation possibly to have more kids. For now, Jolie and fiancé Brad Pitt are focused on maintaining a sense of routine for their children while she continues treatment. Doctors do, however, recommend that this type of surgery should be performed before a woman reaches the age of 40.
