Today In Delicious News, J. Lo, Cardi B, Constance Wu, Julia Stiles, And Lili Reinhart Are Making A Movie About Vengeful Strippers
The movie is based on a 2016 article from New York Magazine about a group of strippers who scammed their Wall Street clients out of thousands.
Today in news you didn't see coming, Cardi B, Lili Reinhart, and Julia Stiles are joining the star-studded cast of Hustlers, an upcoming film about vengeful New York strippers. Because what's a movie about the Big Apple's finest ladies without the coolest Bronx-born (former) stripper in history? Cardi, Reinhart, and Stiles join Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Keke Palmer, and Mercedes Ruehl in the flick, which follows a group of strippers who set out to scam their wealthy Wall Street clients. That's two queens from the block, a '90s icon who inspired a generation of feminists, a Nickelodeon alum who played a 15-year-old girl boss, an Oscar-winning veteran actress, and Riverdale's very own Betty Cooper all in one film. Give these ladies all the Oscars already!
"We could not have asked for a more exciting or talented lineup of performers to join our cast," Adam Fogelson, STXfilms chairman, said in a statement. "STX is thrilled to reunite with Jennifer, Elaine (Goldsmith-Thomas) and Benny (Medina) to bring this unexpected, entertaining and often shocking story to the big screen for audiences worldwide."
Hustlers is based on the viral New York Magazine story written by Jessica Pressler, "The Hustlers at Scores." Lorene Scafaria, who wrote Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist and Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, will pen the screenplay and direct the movie. Cats' Mette Towley and Transparent's Trace Lysette are also in talks to join the cast. This movie is already shaping up to be a blockbuster that will give Ocean's 8 a run for its money.
When the project was first announced in 2016, Scafaria explained why Hustlers won't be your average, run-of-the-mill heist movie.
"The film is an empathetic look at women and men, our gender roles, what we’re valued for, what we’ve been told is our value in every movie, TV show, every corner of culture," she told Variety. "Men have been told they’re worth the size of their bank accounts. Women have been told they’re worth the symmetry of their faces, their bodies, their beauty and that’s what this film is based on. The rules of the club are the rules of the world."
She also revealed she's ecstatic about Lopez's involvement (who, by the way, is also executive producing the film along with Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Alexandra Brown).
"There is no other actor who could embody this raw and dynamic character with such complexity, humanity and intelligence," Scarfaria said. “It’s always been her. She’s f—ing Jennifer Lopez."
As for Jenny from the Block, she's already bringing her A-game, and filming hasn't even begun. The singer/actress has reportedly started pole dancing and doing special workouts in preparation for her role. Not only that, she also embarked on a strict no-sugar, low-carb diet. Talk about dedication!
No word yet as to when Hustlers will hit the big screen, but filming is set to begin March 22.
