The First Official Photo From 'Game Of Thrones' Season 8 Is Here!
The new season couldn't come sooner.
Winter is here and the end is upon us.
On Thursday, the first official photo from Season 8 of Game of Thrones was finally released. The forthcoming, final season was filmed over the course of 10 months in Northern Ireland and has been shrouded in secrecy. The new cover of Entertainment Weekly gives us a glimpse of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) standing next to each other and looking rather grim. Their burgeoning relationship from reluctant allies to full-fledged lovers (who don't know they are related) will undoubtedly continue to be a focal point in the final six episodes of the eighth season.
"It's about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death," co-executive producer Bryan Cogman said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. "It's an incredibly emotional haunting bittersweet final season and I think it honors very much what [author George R.R. Martin] set out to do — which is flipping this kind of story on its head."
"It's relentless; scenes that would have been a one-day shoot five years ago are now a five-day shoot," Harington explained of the grueling filming process for the HBO series. "They want to get it right, they want to shoot everything every single way so they have options."
Clarke agreed with her co-star about the bigger and better final season. "[Camera] checks take longer, costumes are a bit better, hair and makeup a bit sharper — every choice, every conversation, every attitude, has this air of 'this is it.' Everything feels more intense."
